About The Acoustic Guitarist
The Acoustic Guitarist is a free website for people who play acoustic guitar: a tuner, pages for every key, chord and tuning you can hear by tapping, and plain-English guides. Every note, chord and scale on the site is worked out by the same tested music engine, not typed in by hand.
What you can do here
- Tune your guitar with the guitar tuner: it listens through your microphone, or plays reference tones if you prefer to tune by ear. Alternate tunings are on the tunings pages.
- Look up a key, such as the key of G major: all seven chords, common progressions, capo options and the scale on the fretboard, with sound. All keys are listed on the keys page.
- Find a chord shape on the chords pages and hear how it should sound.
- Learn the basics from the guides in Learn, from reading chord charts to strumming patterns.
The pages are built to work on a phone propped on a music stand: big buttons, sound on tap, no sign-up.
How the content is checked
- Music is computed, not typed. Notes, chords, intervals, keys, capo positions and tunings come from one music engine that is tested against every key and every chord shape. A chord diagram on this site cannot show frets that do not spell the chord.
- No made-up experience. The site does not claim to have tested products it has not tested, and it does not invent teachers, reviewers or personal stories.
- No lyrics, tabs or song chord charts. Songs are mentioned by title and artist only. Song arrangements belong to their writers and publishers.
- If a fact is uncertain, it is left out. Guides show the date they were last changed in substance.
Found a mistake? A wrong note or a chord that sounds off is exactly the kind of report the site wants. See the contact page.
Who runs the site
The site is run by The Acoustic Guitarist editorial team. It is an independent site with no publisher, sponsor or guitar brand behind it. The aim is simple: a reference you can hear, so a chord or a key is checked by ear on the page instead of being taken on trust.
History of the domain
theacousticguitarist.com ran as a guitar blog from 2018 to 2026. The domain then expired and was registered again in October 2026. The current site is a full rebuild: the pages that readers and search engines already knew keep their old addresses, but the content is rewritten, and old posts with no matching page now redirect to the closest new page.
Ads and partner links
The site is free to use. It shows no ads and has no affiliate links at the moment. If that changes, this paragraph and the privacy policy will say so first, and ads or partner links will never change what a page says.
How your data is handled is described in the privacy policy, and the rules for using the site in the terms and conditions.
